PROCESS ENGINEER
Job Description
Evaluates, selects, and applies standard engineering methods, techniques, procedures and criteria, using independent judgment in making adaptations and modifications. Performs assignments, which have clear and specific objectives and require the investigation of a limited number of variables for an engineering discipline within a global business unit.
Understands the basic discipline work processes.  Performs engineering tasks, within a discipline, having a minor degree  of complexity.  Participates in reviewing and checking designs, drawings and data from suppliers.  Familiar with relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs).
Specific Roles and Responsibilities
• Process configuration and optimization studies • Process modelling and simulation • Preparation of PFDs and heat and mass balances • Sizing and specification of major process equipment • Safety, environmental and operability reviews (HAZOP, ENVID, SIL) • Relief system design, including PSV sizing, flare hydraulics and radiation analysis • P&ID development, including selection of design conditions, hydraulic analysis, line sizing and pipe specifications, equipment isolation, vent and drain systems, cause and effects.
Position Skills
Process simulation -  Working knowledge of the following software programs - Hysys, PRO/II, PROMAX,Flarenet, Flaresim
Industry Codes and Standards- Knowledge of the following API 520, 521, 526, 527, 2000
Qualifications - BSc / BEng / MEng in Chemical Engineering
The candidate should be a Chartered engineer or working toward chartership with a professional affiliation.  The role involves opportunity for international travel.

Solvay is seeking a Process Engineer for our Aroma Performance global business unit in Baton Rouge, LA.  This role will provide technical expertise and day-to-day engineering support to the manufacturing facility while supporting the effort to achieve superior HSE performance, troubleshoot existing processes, and evaluate changes and new projects to optimize operating conditions.  In addition, the Process Engineer will establish and drive plant performance indicators, including raw material and energy usage and overall equipment efficiency as well as improve the operating skills and technical knowledge of the workforce through daily interaction.

Experiencia y aptitudes deseadas

  • BS Degree in Chemical Engineering
  • Expertise applying fundamental principles of Chemical Engineering
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience
  • Good interpersonal skills with prior supervisory experience a plus
  • Knowledge of reaction, distillation, extraction and solids handling
  • Strong understanding of health, safety and environmental work practices and Process Safety Management
  • Ability to interact with hourly workforce and work with different operations teams, maintenance and lab personnel
  • Proficient in engineering principles to solve plant problems and identify improvement opportunities
  • Ability to establish, prioritize and provide follow-up on issues

Specific Roles and Responsibilities

Job Description
Plans and conducts independent work within a global business unit requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures and criteria. Devises new approaches to solving problems.

Devises new approaches to technical problems.  Knowledgeable of and performs standard discipline engineering activities on projects of relatively small size and complexity within the business line with minimal technical oversight.  Coordinates technical issues with other departments on projects including constructability requirements and reviews.  Provides technical direction for specific tasks and assigns work to subordinate senior engineers, engineers, designers, drafters or project sub-groups.  Broad knowledge of precedents in the industry.
